Addiction specialist, Mika Petälä, visits Päivi Kyyrö's 'Pelastusrengas'-programme in Radio Dei 9.40PM. The theme is gambling addiction. Kyyrö interviews Petälä and he reveals the seriousness of the gambling addiction in people's everyday life. Petälä tells about his personal experiences on the way to full freedom from the gambling problem. The programme is heard as a collage on Saturday 16.2.

The ministry of Social affairs and Health is planning a legal reform. It would give a chance to a person who has lost his money by gambling in internet to collect the money back. According to tentative plans this would practically mean that the firm which has offered the game, credit company or the gambler who won the game would pay the money back. Bureaucrats of the ministry of Social affairs and Health, the interior ministry and the professor of law and economics, Kalle Määttä, in the university of Joensuu are behind the plan which means the reform in the law of lottery. We opened our web pages in September 2007. We have received lots of positive feedback. Visitor calculators reveal that the number of visitors per month grows over than 100%. Last October the limit of the thousand of visitors was already exceeded. This shows the need of help to gambling addictions which prevails in the society. We rejoice in all you whom we have been able to help with our acting, both via the helpline of the organization and via personal contact. We also pray for you who are still struggling with your problems and are looking for answers for your situation in your life. This Christmas is full of hope, too. STAKES: CONCERN ABOUT GAMBLING PROBLEMS IS INCREASING - 29.9.2007 PROBLEMS ON THE OLD LEVEL
Compared to the research which was made four years ago, the most remarkable change has happened in the opinions of the people which go for the gambling problem. Almost two thirds of the people think that problematic gambling is a serious problem in Finland. In 2003 half of the people regarded the problem as serious. DID YOU KNOW THAT OVER 100.000 PEOPLE ARE CARRYING A HEAVY BURDEN IN FINLAND?
There is the name in the burden: GAMBLING PROBLEM. In 2003 according to the research of the ministry of Social affairs and Health there already were around 25.000-65.000 people who have come down with gambling. Today that number is much bigger and it is increasing overwhelmingly. In actual fact there are more those who carry the burden: thousands of spouses, children, fathers, mothers, grandparents, friends etc. have been made to carry this heavy burden. The gambling problem affects 7-10 persons in gambler's circle of acquaintances. According to a meager estimation there are 500.000 people who are quietly carrying this burden called gambling problem. It is persistent to work with people who have come down with addiction. To success our shared work requires dedicated workers and supporters. Do you know any person in your circle of friends who has serious gambling problems? Even you don't know, still you must know that there are lots of people who have the problem. All kind of supprt is necessary. By supporting our volunteer work even with a little amount you can affect that little boys and girls don't have to carry this heavy burden which has never meant for them. Read more...
